BIO

Karl Silveira is a GRAMMY Award (Hilario Duran 2023) Nominated and JUNO Award Winning (Hilario Duran 2023) Trombonist from Toronto. He completed a Master of Music in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Toronto in 2019. He was also selected to attend the Banff Jazz and Creative Music Workshop in 2008. He is a regular member of the Sam Kirmayer Sextet, The Alex Dean Quintet, The Alex Brown Sextet, Hogtown Brass Quintet, The Harley Card Sunset Ensemble, The Noam Lemish TWELVE and has performed with the David Braid Sextet, The Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra and the Hilario Duran Jazz Orchestra.

As a sideman, Karl has performed with many great musicians in the Jazz world including Clark Terry, Ben Monder, Ingrid Jensen, Jazzmeia Horn, Jens Lindemann, Paquito D'Rivera, Jackie Richardson, Ira Coleman, Neil Swainson, Robi Botos and many others. Karl also has a long history playing many different genres particularly Eastern European Folk Music and Roma. Karl has played and recorded with the Juno Award winning Lemonbucket Orkestra as well as the Canadian Folk Music Award winning Boxcar Boys. He still gets called regularly to perform in a wide variety of world music.

In addition to his career as a freelance trombonist, Karl is also a composer, bandleader, and educator. He recently released his debut album "A Porta Aperta," which has been praised by reviewers and received widespread radio play. Karl is proud to be a Yamaha Trombone Artist and is a member of the Jazz Performance Faculty at the University of Toronto, where he has been teaching since 2019.
